Simply red
A student in my editing class asks a good question: Is this human blood in this front-page photo, or is it fuel or fluid from the car? The cutline is unclear.

    I think it does look like blood.

    It's likely transmission or steering fluid (both are pinkish red). Even some coolants are red. But I'm betting the photog just thought it was visually interesting.
